EarthWrite offers a self-funded residency at Whetūrangi, a very special property for those seeking deep serenity, creative renewal and a profound connection with the natural world.
Set on a terrace in a mountain valley, on the threshold of Kahurangi National Park, Whetūrangi is a place to slow down and listen. Wake each morning to the first light touching the mountain summits as they rise into the sky — ancient, majestic and sacred. Here, the days unfold at your own pace, undisturbed. There is space to rest, to wander, to write, to create, and simply to be — allowing a gentle sense of spaciousness to emerge.
Our hope is that Whetūrangi will grow into an iconic creative haven: a supportive sanctum where writers and creative practitioners can retreat from the demands of everyday life, reconnect with themselves and their work, and find inspiration in the landscape.
We warmly welcome applications from New Zealand and international creative practitioners for stays of two weeks to four months.
