Welcome...
The vision

Whetūrangi

Ange Palmer with her dog Tusca at Whetūrangi
“It is an extraordinary privilege to live in such direct communion with this mountain. Tuao Wharepapa / Mt Arthur is ever-changing — at times cloaked in drifting mist, and at others revealed in breathtaking clarity. For much of the year, her upper slopes are crowned with snow, yet in every season her presence is powerful, elemental and deeply moving.

I purchased this property first and foremost to continue the important conservation work begun by the previous owners, who were the first to nurture this vision. I also wanted to make this place available to others, so that the gifts of this landscape might be shared — creating a wider sense of connection, renewal and collective benefit through time spent in this place of deep serenity and awe.

This valley has been tugging at my heartstrings for more than 25 years. Over that time, I have developed a profound commitment to listening to the land, caring for its living systems, and protecting the creatures who call it home.

By staying here, you become part of that ongoing care. Your time at Whetūrangi helps support the continuation of this work, while offering you the opportunity to experience something of the spirit of this remarkable valley.

I have no doubt that, in your own way, you too will be deeply touched by its essence.”

Is it the chambers, passages and underground rivers in the huge cave system beneath this mountain, or the pristine native forests and waterways? There's something that happens here – the energy of this place is enlivening, pure, so if you are looking for a place to work on a creative project, or to rest deeply, or convalesce, I welcome you here to Whetūrangi.

to know how much I want to stay...

I need to be on alpine passes
and lie sprawled out in tussock grasses...

To know the colours of my soul
body strong and spirit whole..."
