Whetūrangi is available for short to medium term residencies from 1st October until 31st May each year. Bookings are currently open for the period October 2026 through to May 2029. These are the warmer months in New Zealand.
How long should I come for?
We invite you to book for a period of between 2 weeks and 4 months. So, it could be that we have just two guests over our main season, both wanting a longer, focused stint, or we could have many people coming through for shorter periods. When you send through your booking enquiry we’ll let you know what the current vacant periods are. We advise booking early to avoid disappointment.
From June 1st to September 30th we offer the ‘Winter Repose’ where you may settle in and take up residency at a much reduced price. This is only available for one or two people (a couple, or couple of friends) for the entire period. Being in a valley the winter sun hours are short – about 5 hours mid winter, but the house is cosy. You’ll be running the wood burner and radiators, and appreciating the passive solar aspects of the house design.
What does it cost to stay at Whetūrangi?
Our tariffs vary depending on when and how long you stay. We’ll send you our rates when you submit your enquiry. The longer your stay the better value your weekly rate. We give priority to writers and creatives.
Can I stay less than two weeks?
Yes, you can. But this is a more expensive option. Our venue is available for travellers stays, honeymoons, fishermen stays, cyclist stop-overs, as a sanctuary for spiritual practitioners, ‘executive re-set’ retreats and other supported health stays. Our pricing structure is different for these shorter stays.
How do I get there?
The Baton Valley is remote and if necessary we can arrange airport transfers or pick ups from Nelson or Motueka. Helicopter transport is also an option. There is no public transport available. Please enquire for prices.

We require a 20% deposit at the time of booking, only refundable up to 30 days prior to the booking commencement date. The balance of payment is required 7 days prior to your check-in date. Payment is made via the website payment system with a credit card, or bank transfer within New Zealand.
